Baripada/Sundergarh: Five persons were killed and four others seriously injured in two separate road accidents in Mayurbhanj and Sundergarh districts on Monday.

Three persons died after a scooter collided head on with a car near Bankaban square near Amarda Road  in Mayurbhanj district late last night. The deceased have been identified as Gopal Krushna Das, Mochiram Soren and Biswajit Giri. All of them belong to Rasagobindpur village.

Two others were admitted to Baripada hospital in a critical condition. Sources said the accident occurred while the victims were returning home after watching drama.

Aggrieved over the incident, locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased and injured victims.

Similarly,  two persons were killed after a truck hit another stationary truck from behind at Barpalli under Hemgiri Police limits in Sundergarh district.

After hitting the stationary vehicle, the truck lost control and overturned after running over a pedestrian. The pedestrian and driver of the illfated truck died on the spot.

The dead truck driver has been identified as Santosh Mahato, a resident of Nuadihi in Jharkhand. However, the identity of the pedestrian is yet to be ascertained.
