Five get lifer for abduction of 4-yr-old girl in 2002

Jeypore: Five persons were convicted for abducting a 4-year-old girl in Koraput in 2002 and awarded life imprisonment for the same by the Koraput District Judge today.

As per sources, nine miscreants had abducted the minor girl, daughter of a Telecommunication Division Manager on December 18, 2002 while she was returning from school in Koraput.

Later on December 19, 2002, they had called the girl’s father and demanded Rs 20 lakh ransom for release of the child. An FIR was registered in this regard and police launched a manhunt.

Out of the nine accused, one has died, while three others were acquitted by the court.
