Jharsuguda: Five persons were detained today by the Jharsuguda police for discarding body of their friend under a bridge.

According to reports, a labourer, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, fell sick yesterday and was being taken to Burla Medical by five fellow labourers.

However, the sick labourer died on the way to the hospital. Not knowing what to do with the body, the group of men discarded the body under the Rampela bridge in Jharsuguda. Subsequently, the body was recovered by the Banharpali police.

DSP Brajrajnagar M Kiro said that whatever happened was an act of ignorance and cannot be considered as a crime.

"The victim was a resident of West Bengal who died while being taken to Burla medical. His body was thrown out of ignorance and it is not a criminal act. Four people have been detained and an investigation is underway," said Kiro.
