Bhubaneswar: Drawing lessons from the recent fire mishap at Kamala Mills in Mumbai that killed 14 people, Odisha Fire Services swung into action to ensure that similar mishaps are prevented during New Year celebrations in the State.

With people across the State all set to dip in revelry, the Fire Services department on Saturday conducted a safety check in various hotels, clubs and other public places.

The move is aimed at ensuring that such public places are equipped to deal with emergency situations including fire mishaps.

The fire safety inspection is being conducted at prominent hotels, clubs and cinema halls in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri, informed Fire Services DG BK Sharma.

The fire teams are basically inspecting whether the concerned hotels have adequate fire extinguishers and if they are in working condition or not, entry and exit routes and other measures taken to minimize loss of life and property in case of fire mishaps.
