Bhubaneswar: Tightening its noose around SUM hospital for violating fire safety norms and operating without valid licence that led to the loss of 24 lives, the Odisha government on Friday de-empanelled the health care unit from the list of referral hospitals.

Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) issued a notification in this regard this afternoon.

Official sources said, the hospital has also been removed from the list of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), a Central-government run health insurance scheme for the below poverty line (BPL) families.

The notification stated, the hospital which has not obtained the requisite fire safety certificate from State government was also delisted as referral hospital under Odisha State Treatment Fund (OSTF). Under the OSTF, patients of BPL families, patients with annual income of Rs 40,000 in rural areas and Rs 60,000 in urban areas can avail specialised treatment of diseases of lung, kidney and heart.

The plan provides assistance up to Rs.3 lakh for treatment and medicine cost. People signed under this scheme can avail medical assistance in all government hospitals as well as private hospitals empanelled as referral hospitals.
