Fire Mishap at hotelier’s house: Childline officials not allowed to conduct probe

Bhubaneswar: Childline officials who reached at the residence of Pal Heights Hotel owner Satpal Singh to probe on the death of his grandchildren and a minor housemaid were not allowed to undertake it today.

As per the order of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) the Childline officials had reached Satpal’s residence to find possible reasons behind deaths of the children in the August 3 fire mishap that had cost lives of five including four family members of Satpal.

However, the officials were not allowed inside by the security guard saying no family member was present in the house.

CWC had not informed Satpal or his family about the visit, informed the childline officials. They said that CWC will be asked to arrange another date with prior information to Satpal and family.

It may be mentioned that Satpal’s younger son Gaganpal Singh (39), his daughter-in-law Bhavna (38), granddaughter Suhavi (12), grandson Ruveer (4) and a 12-year-old girl identified as Tanu Das, who worked as a domestic help in their house were killed in the fire mishap.

Gaganpal and Bhavna were charred to death while the three children died due to suffocation.

Three rooms on the second floor of the three-storey palatial building located on Cuttack Road were gutted in the fire. The couple was sleeping in one room while their two children along with the domestic help Tanu were sleeping in an adjacent room.
