Fire engulfs Biscuit factory in Patia, blaze still not under control

Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at the Lingaraj biscuit factory near Infosys Chhak in Patia, Bhubaneswar, today.

Till the report was filed, 100 fire personnel and 12 fire tender units were pressed into service to bring the blaze under control.

Assessment of the damages caused due to the incident is yet to be ascertained as the fire has not been controlled yet.

Fire officer Ramesh Chandra Majhi said, "Due to presence of biscuit and other inflammable items such as plastic, the fire spread very fast at the factory. A JCB machine has been also deployed to clear the damaged stock of biscuits," adding that the fire services got information at around 3.40 am.

Besides, a team of NDRF personnel joined the fire services staff in the operation to bring the blaze under control.

"If anyone is trapped inside the factory, our personnel will get inside and rescue the person. We have also brought a smoke ventilator machine to remove smoke, a NDRF official stated.

The reason behind the fire has not been found out.
