Puri/Balasore: A major fire broke out at a multi-storeyed star hotel on VIP road in Puri late Monday night. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Getting information, fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

Though the exact cause of fire is still unclear, it is suspected that the mishap occurred due to an electric short-circuit. Sources said property worth lakhs of rupees have been damaged in the mishap.

"As soon as we noticed fire inside our hotel, we informed the fire department. They rushed to the spot to douse the blaze. Reportedly, fire broke out in one room and gradually spread to six other rooms nearby," said a staff.

In another similar incident, two rooms were gutted and 12 cattle charred to death in a massive fire that broke out late last night at Markona Bazar Sahi in Soro of Balasore district. The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, the villagers alleged that no official of the district administration has come yet to take stock of the situation.
