Bhubaneswar: Computers, furniture and other important documents were reduced to ashes after a fire broke out in United Bank of India's building at Kharavela Nagar branch here late last night. Though no casualty was reported in the incident, property worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the mishap.

As per reports, the bank’s security guard first spotted the blaze in the building’s first floor and later informed the fire personnel at around 1.20 am.

After receiving information, two units of fire brigade reached the spot and it took them nearly an hour to douse the flames.

Though the exact reason is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the fire was caused due to a possible short circuit.

Mukti Ranjan Ray, an official of United Bank of India, said, “Official documents and computers have been gutted in the fire mishap.”
