Berhampur: A Plus Two Science student allegedly set himself on fire in his house at Gayatri Nagar under Bada Bazar police limits here on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Panda.

Sources said Rajesh had twice appeared the annual board examination but failed to clear both the times. He had also appeared the examination this year, results of which are scheduled to be declared tomorrow.

His family members alleged that Rajesh had been in stress after coming to know about the declaration of the exam results. He allegedly committed suicide in his study room by pouring kerosene and setting himself on fire when his parents were out to market yesterday.

Rajesh's parents found the burnt body of their son when they reached home and later lodged a complaint at Bada Bazaar police station.

"He was not under mental stress for any other reason neither had he enmity with anyone. May be, he was in tension for results since he had failed the test twice,' said his mother Rita.

"From preliminary probe it seems that the student was apprehensive about his plus II results which will be declared tomorrow and that might have prompted him to take the extreme step. Investigation will be expedited from all angles to see whether it was a suicide or any kind of foul play was involved in the incident," SDPO Rajesh Kumar Panda said.
