Kendrapara: In a suspected case of honour killing, a man allegedly killed his daughter and threw her body in a river at Patrapur village under Rajkanika block in the district. The deceased has been identified as Kanchan Sahoo.

According to sources, some locals had witnessed Narayan Sahoo killing his daughter and throwing her body to a river on July 1.

When villagers asked Narayan about his daughter, he could not give them a satisfactory answer and kept changing his statements.

Following the incident, the uncle of the deceased and some locals filed a complaint in this regard with Rajkanika police.

Ramakanta Sahoo, the uncle of Kanchan said, “On that day, I had gone to my relative’s home. When I returned home, my family member s said my elder brother had killed his daughter and thrown her body in the river. As soon as I heard the news, I rushed to the police station and filed a complaint in this regard.”

Sanatana Behera, an eyewitness to the incident, said, “When I was returning home, I saw Narayan Sahoo and Sridhara Jena going carrying a body. When I asked what happened, Narayan said his daughter had died.”

On being informed about the incident, Rajkanika police station Inspector in Charge (IIC) visited the spot and detained the father of the deceased for interrogation. When asked about the proceedings of the case, the investigating official refused to give any comments.
