Jajpur/Bargarh: With uncertainty looming large over state government's decision on debt relief, two farmers from Jajpur and Bargarh districts allegedly committed suicide on Monday.

According to sources, one Suresh Sahu of Sundarpur village under Bari block in Jajpur district ended life by hanging himself from a tree close to his village over alleged crop failure and debt burden. His family alleged that Sahu was under severe mental stress owing to crop loss and had taken loans from money lenders due to which he took the extreme step.

In another incident last evening, a farmer of Raisilpadar under Gaisilat block in Bargarh district allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison over crop loss. The farmer, Umakant Sahu was immediately rushed to Loisingha Hospital where he died during treatment.

Alleging that Sahu consumed poison due to crop loss, his family members staged a road blockade near Saradhapalli area demanding compensation.
