Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of farmers from various districts across the state staged a rally at the Lower PMG here today taking up various issues faced by them.

Holding banners and shouting slogans, the farmers under the aegis of Odisha Krushak Sangathan Samanaya Samiti assembled at Lower PMG and staged 'Krushak Adhikar Chetabani Samavesh'. Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sangharsh Samiti of West-Bengal is supporting the protest. A team of representatives from the neighbouring state has also joined stir.

Environmentalist and farmer leader Prafulla Samantray, who joined the protest, termed both the state government and the Centre as anti-farmers. He alleged that at a time when the state government itself is yet to give bonus to the farmers, it has urged the Centre to increase the paddy MSP to Rs 2,930 per quintal. Similarly, the Centre hiked the paddy MSP by a meagre Rs 80 though the Prime Minister had earlier promised to double the price. Besides, no steps have been taken up to waive farm loans, he added.

The protestors alleged that the farmers would raise their voice and stage protest in every village in coming days if the government does not take up the issues and provide justice to the farmers.
