Bhubaneswar: Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the State Assembly today followed by repeated adjournments as BJP members created a din by shouting slogans over farmer suicide cases in Odisha and marched towards the podium of Speaker Niranjan Pujari.

As soon as the House assembled to start today’s business, the BJP legislators including Rabi Naik marched to the House well and shouted slogans against the State government near the Speaker’s podium protesting against the farmer suicides reported in past few days in Odisha.

Unable to run the House, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings for one hour.

The second adjournment till 3 pm occurred when the BJP legislators once again marched to the House well over the same issue in the beginning of the question hour. The Speaker adjourned the proceedings for the third time till 4 pm as the logjam over farmer suicides continued.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Narasingha Mishra raised the Boudh farmer death issue in the House and claimed four farmers have committed suicide in the State due crop loss and loan burden in recent past.

Mishra further stated the Speaker should call for an all-party meeting to talk about the issue as request for a privilege notice is not being considered.
