Farmer ends life over loan burden

Balasore: Distressed over loan burden a farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Balasore district on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Barendra Parida of Palasahi village under Karua panchayat of the district was under mental duress for past few days as he failed to repay loans.

Parida had cultivated crops in two acres of land by taking a loan of Rs 1 lakh from a bank. Besides, he had taken private loans from money lenders in the village, said family members of the deceased.

Unable to repay the loans, Parida took the extreme step by consuming pesticide in his farmland on Monday. He was rushed to the Basta hospital where doctors declared him dead.
