Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday reduced fares for all categories of passenger buses as per the automatic fare adjustment mechanism after oil companies cut diesel prices by Rs 2.01 yesterday.

As per a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport department, the fares for ordinary and express buses have been reduced by 1 paisa per kilometre, while fares for Deluxe and AC Deluxe category buses have been slashed by 2 paise per kilometre.

With this cut coming into effect, the fare for ordinary buses will now be 59 paise per km as against 60 paise per km earlier while the fare for express buses has been slashed to 62 paise from 63 paise per km.

After today’s decrease in the fair, deluxe category buses will now charge 82 paise per km as against 84 paise earlier and commuters travelling in AC Deluxe buses will have to fork out Rs 1.03 instead of the current Rs 1.05 paise per km, the notification added.

This is for the third time this year that the state government has reduced the bus fare. The state government had reduced the bus fare on January 21 and July 1.
