Family beats headmaster, teachers after girl hangs herself in house

Dhenkanal: Chaos prevailed on the Indipur High School premises in Dhenkanal as family members of a girl, who died after allegedly being rebuked by a teacher, thrashed the headmaster and school staff here on Saturday.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Friday after a teacher of the Indipur School warned the girl from Dengaborei after finding her slitting her wrist. Later in the evening, the girl was found hanging in her house under mysterious circumstances.

Blaming the school authority for her death, the irate family members, along with the Dengaborei villagers today ransacked the school properties and beat up the Headmaster and other school staff.

On getting information, Indipur Gram Panchayat Sarpanch rushed to the spot to pacify the mob. He immediately informed local police officials, who reached the spot and are investigating into the incident, sources said.

"As soon as I was informed, I rushed to the school and could see the villagers ransacking the school and beating up the staff. Even after I asked them to stop this, they didn't stop,” said Sarpanch Rajkishore Rout.

“As per my knowledge, the girl hanged herself in her house after returning from school. However, the family is alleging that the school authorities are behind the girl’s death. I feel that the girl’s behaviour in the school has led to this situation and the school staff have nothing to do with the girl's step. Necessary action should be taken against whoever is found responsible,” he added.
