Sambalpur: Four persons were arrested today in Dhanupali of Sambalpur district after police raided a fake lubricant manufacturing and selling unit on Wednesday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Md. Yakub alias Dilu and Md. Gaus of Sunapali area, Md. Manowar Alam of Khetipada and Mahesh Agrawal of Rourkela.

Acting on a tip-off, the Dhanupali police on Wednesday raided the house of Md Yakub and seized empty plastic cans, sealing caps, paper seals, stickers of different brands of lubricants, holograms, lubricant dye and mixing drum etc. Around 780 litres of fake lubricants were seized by the police team.

According to police, the accused have confessed to the crime and said that they were procuring materials and duplicate lubricants from Rourkela, Rajgangpur and Kolkata. Later they used to paste forged brand stickers and sell them as genuine at higher rates to unsuspecting customers, said police sources.

“Some people from Kolkata are also involved in the case. We have identified involvement of other people and police team will be sent soon to arrest them as well,” said Sambalpur SP, Sanjeev Arora.
