Bhubaneswar: Cyber Police of Odisha Crime Branch, on Tuesday, arrested two persons for allegedly duping a person on the pretext of providing LPG dealership under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Ujjwala Yojna.

The accused have been identified as Rajesh Patel of Nalanda and Kanhaiya Sahani of Vaishali in Bihar. They had allegedly cheated one Rabi Narayan Behera of Rs 11.92 lakh.

Senior Crime Branch officials informed that the duo had opened a fake website and through advertisement sought applications from individuals for LPG dealership.

After going through the advertisement, Rabi Narayan Behera had deposited Rs 11.92 as per the terms and conditions mentioned in the fake website, informed Special Director General of Police (Crime Branch) BK Sharma in a tweet.

Behera subsequently registered a case in Cyber Crime police station after finding that the website and email and other contact numbers were blocked.

Rajesh Patel and Kanhaiya Sahani will be taken on remand after being produced in Khurda court, crime branch officials said.

Further probe in connection with the incident is on as involvement of other accused in the fake LPG dealership scam is also suspected.

Official sources said, Rajesh Patel had purchased six plots at Rs 54 lakhs in Kolkatta out of the defrauded money. Eight bank accounts with a deposit of Rs 9 lakh, two laptops, hard disc, pen drive and 24 ATM cards have been seized from the two accused.
