Bhubaneswar: Students who fail in Class X and XII examinations, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) can now appear the test as regular students.

As per a latest circular issued by the board, students who have failed or scored less marks can take admission in CBSE affiliated schools as regular students and appear for Class X and XII examinations. However, the board will only monitor the examinations.

The board’s decision has come as a major relief to hundreds of students in Odisha who are still to come to terms with reality over irregularity in evaluation of class XII answer sheets this year.

Earlier, the flunked students used to appear the exam as private candidates and had to register separately. They usually appear the exam in different centres than that of the regular students.

The board has given a freehand to the schools to select students for the board examination as per the rules of the governing trust. Some parents, however, expected this may lead to exploitation by school authorities.

The CBSE has made students registration online and made Aadhar cards mandatory from this year.
