Jharsuguda: A major accident was averted in the Alleppey-Dhanbad Express today after explosive materials were recovered from one of its compartments at the Jharsuguda Road railway station.
The explosives were seized by a team of Government Railway Police (GRP) officials who rushed to the train after being informed about the presence of explosives.
As per reports, the materials were first spotted by the passengers who started screaming in panic.
"Some passengers raised an alarm after noticing fire under a seat. The on-duty personnel swung into action and doused the flames with his legs and threw out five unexploded devices wrapped in polythene," informed Jharsuguda GRP DSP Khirsagar Nayak .
Station Manager Chaitanya Sahu said, “The train arrived at the station at 3.15 AM and halted for around 20 minutes. Soon after it departed, a RPF staff called me and informed me about the recovered explosive materials. We have informed the local police about it.”
“The bomb disposal squad has been informed . After they defuse the devices, we shall take the next course of action. The purpose behind taking the explosives in the train will be known after investigation,” he said.
