Puri: A team of engineers inspected the lightning arrester of ‘Nilachakra’ – the metal wheel atop Sri Jagannath temple.

The team comprising engineers from General Electrical Department (GED), Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) carried out the final inspection.

According to the expert team, eight of the 12 spikes of the lightning arrestor fixed at Anlabedha of the 12th century shrine have broken.

Besides, earthing conductor’s connection with Nilachakra has become loose, the team stated.

Sources said the team will also discuss how to prevent the holy flag ‘Patitapabana Bana’ along with other other flags fixed atop ‘Nilachkara’ from coming off.
