Koraput: Just days after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced monetary relief to expectant mothers under the ‘Sampurna Yojana’, yet another incident mocking the safe motherhood initiative -Janani Surakshya Yojana has questioned implementation of developmental initiatives of the Odisha government. Yet again a pregnant woman was carried on cot by her family members after failing to avail ambulance service.

The incident was reported from Ramgarh village in Gadapadar Panchayat under Jeypore block of Koraput district after the woman, Phulmati Muduli complained of labour pain today.

Family members of Phulmati immediately called for 102 Ambulance services. However, due to inconvenient roads, the ambulance could not reach the village, sources said.

The family then had to carry her in a cot through the non-motorable roads to reach the nearby junction, from where she was rushed to the hospital in an auto rickshaw.

Phulmati is undergoing treatment at the Rabanaguda Primary Health Centre in Kumuliputa. Her condition is reported to be stable, sources added.
