Expectant mother delivers on road in Parlakhemundi

Parlakhemundi: In another incident of poor healthcare facilities in State, an expectant mother delivered a baby on road in Paralakhemundi of Gajapati district today, while being taken to hospital in an auto-rickshaw.

According to sources, family members of Rajeswari Pradhan daughter of Raghunath Apat of Sauntia Sahi had called an ambulance service after she complained of labour pain.

As the ambulance along with Asha worker were late, Rajeswari's family left for the hospital in an auto-rickshaw. However, they stopped near Kachara Sahi as she developed severe contractions and labour pain.

Rajeswari delivered the baby on road with help of some local women. Later, an ambulance arrived at the spot and took both the mother and child to hospital.

"We will conduct a probe into the incident; I have also interrogated the Asha worker. The mother and child are presently well and I will see to it that such incidents do not recur," said CDMO Purna Chandra Kora.
