Executive Engineer held in disproportionate assets case

Puri: Vigilance today arrested Puri PWD Executive Engineer Niraj Dash on charges of amassing property disproportionate to his known source of income.

Vigilance sleuths had detained Dash after unaccounted cash worth Rs 3.28 lakh was revered from his car near Pipili toll gate yesterday.

Several notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 denominations were found stashed inside five envelopes in the car.

It is being suspected that Dash had collected the money through illegal means as it was the last day of financial year 2016-17.

However, Dash alleged that some of his office staff have set him up.

"It is not a case of percentage commission and one can enquire in the office how well I have discharged  my duties in Puri. It is somebody's mischief and I also know the money does not belong to me. The truth will be revealed if other office staff are questioned," said Dash.

The vigilance also found some documents from the possession of Dash which revealed there were allegations against him of being involved in few more corruption cases.

The Under Secretary of Works Department had also instructed the Superintending Engineer to conduct a probe on it.

Vigilance sleuths later raided the house of Dash and found Rs 4 lakh cash, two flats, 400 gram gold and various other property related documents from his possession today.
