Engineering student held for killing friend’s mother

Jeypore: Police today arrested an engineering student in connection with the murder of one Birajini Khandual that took place in Jeypore town of Koraput district on October 17.

The arrested student identified as Aditya Mohanty is a friend of deceased Birajini’s son.

According to sources, Aditya had come to Birajini’s house at Jeypore Irrigation Colony to loot money when she was alone. He chatted with the woman for a while and later strangulated her to death. Later, the accused confessed to the crime.

Police said neither the family members nor any neighbour had any knowledge about the incident. When Birajini’s husband Prashant Kumar Khandual returned to his house from Bhubaneswar next morning, he found her wife’s dead body lying on the floor

At a Press meet, SDPO Rajendra Senapati said, “A scientific team helped us in the investigation. We arrested Aditya on the basis of the evidences against him. He has also confessed to his crime.”
