Engineer, RI in Vigilance net

Balangir/Baripada: Vigilance sleuths today conducted simultaneous raids on the office of Satya Narayan Panigrahi, Junior Engineer, Lift Irrigation, Tusara Irrigation Division in Balangir district, his residence, his in-laws' house and houses of his two brothers at Patnagarh.

The raids were conducted by five teams led by Abhiram Kar, DSP, Vigilance, Balangir.

“Till now, we have seized incriminating documents, cash and jewellery from the house of the Junior Engineer. Besides, preliminary investigation has revealed that Panigrahi is involved in the sale and purchase of about 40 residential plots,” he added.

The raids were continuing till reports last came in.

In another incident, the anti-corruption officials arrested Anima Ghosh, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Pokharia block under Saraskana tehsil in Mayurbhanj district on bribery charges.

Reports said Ghosh had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from from Kamal Lochan Sahu of Saraskana village towards measurement of his paternal land, which was to be divided among the brothers.

As Sahu reported the matter to the Vigilance officials, the latter laid a trap and caught the RI red-handed while she was accepting the bribe.

The arrested RI was later forwarded to the court.
