Kandhamal: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is observing a 12-hour district-wide stir, protesting the handover of Baliguda Jagannath temple to the endowment department.

Kandhamal district VHP unit’s general secretary Paresh Mohapatra said the outfit’s decision to hit the streets comes in the wake of the district administration’s decision to hand over the temple illegally to the endowment department on November 28.

"We oppose the way district administration forcibly took the temple to its control and handed over it to the endowment department. It is illegal and against the religious sentiments of the Hindus. Even though we gave a two-day time limit to the administration to repeal its decision, it did not take any action in this regard, so we decided to launch protests," Mohapatra said.
