Encephalitis toll rises to 117 in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: The death toll due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) mounted to 117 in Malkangiri district with the death of another kid at district headquarters hospital today even as the survey of kids in affected areas for vaccination completed on Tuesday.

Four-year old Daniel Padiami of Bataniguda village under Padia block was undergoing treatment in ICU in a critical condition for several days. The child died during treatment today.

Three more patients are still in the ICU of the district hospital. Their condition is stated to be critical. Similarly, around 15 others affected by the encephalitis virus are undergoing treatment in general ward.

All efforts of district administration and State government seem to have less impact as the toll continues to rise by the day. On the other hand, the survey of kids from six month to 15 years ended yesterday. The survey has been carried out for vaccinate the kids to contain the spread of the killer virus.
