Malkangiri: The death toll due to Japanese Encephalitis mounted to 105 in Malkangiri district, after two children undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital died of the vector-borne disease on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Nila Madkami (3) of Kataguda area under Padia block and Linga Madkami (2) of Amarakunda village under Korukonda block in Malkangiri district.

Meanwhile, the vector-borne disease has also spread its tentacle wide in Koraput district.

According to reports, while 14 children have died of the deadly diseases, as many as 65 kids suffering from Encephalitis are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

At present, one child of Baipariguda and two of Padua area are undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital.

Dr Lalit Rath, CDMO of Koraput, said, “14 children have died while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital. Six of them died of Japanese Encephalitis, while the rest died of other diseases.”

“Three children each of Koraput and Malkangiri districts died of Encephalitis at the district headquarters hospital,” Rath added.
