Malkangiri: The death toll in Japanese Encephalitis reached 62 after one more child succumbed to the disease today.

The 4-year-old deceased identified as Muna Sagadia died in ICU today morning. According to sources, Muna was once discharged from the hospital after being treated for Japanese Encephalitis. Later on he developed fever and was again admitted to the hospital.

Not only Muna, as many as 5 children who were discharged from the hospital after being treated have died.

In the mean time, a 6-member central team visited the district to review the health situation there following the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis. The team today visited Palakonda, Babli and Koimetal villages. Prior to their visit, the team visited the district headquarters hospital to inspect the health condition of the patients and also held long discussions with the hospital staff.

“Doctors, medical team and mobile health units are present in all the districts. They are personally checking the patients and are referring them on a case to case basis,” said Malkangir Collector K Sudarshan Chakrabarty.
