Malkangiri: The toll due to Japanese Encephalitis went up to 69 with one more death at the district headquarters hospital here on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Sania Raba (2) of Kurusibeda village under Korukonda block in the district.

With this, the Encephalitis death toll in the district has gone up to 69 in 48 days.

On October 24, Manoj Baraja, a five-year-old boy of Baraja village of Pedawada panchayat died of the disease at the district headquarters hospital.

Similarly on October 22, three children had died while undergoing treatment at the Malkangiri district headquarters hospital (DHH). The deceased were identified as Sujit Betti (2) of Uskapalli village and Sunki Padiami (3) of Maharampali under Kalimela block and Gayatri Peda (4) of Sindhiguda village under Mathili block.

A six-member central doctors’ team had also visited the affected areas in the district to review the situation there.
