Rourkela: Jumbo scare gripped Bisra Forest range under Rourkela forest division after an elephant trampled a man to death at Katepur village in the wee hours today.

According to reports, a wild jumbo, which had ventured into human settlement, killed George Lugun of Katepur who was on his way to a nearby field to attend nature’s call.

Eyewitnesses said Lugun had come in the way of the pachyderm following which the wild animal trampled him on the road.

In another incident, a herd of 12 elephants strayed into human settlement in Raebaga area and damaged as many as six houses and caused widespread crop damage in the area.

Sources said personnel of the Forest department are closely tracking the movements of jumbos while efforts are still on to drive the herd back into the forest.
