Rourkela/Rairangpur: One child was killed and another critically injured in an elephant attack at Jhirpani village under Banki forest range of Sundergarh district last night. A herd of 30-40 elephants have also destroyed nearly 10 houses in the village.

Similarly, another herd of 19 elephants which was spotted near Jharadihi village under Bahalda Tehsil of Mayurbhanj district, destroyed many houses besides feeding on the stored paddy last night.

As per reports the elephants might have strayed from East Singhbhum district of neighbouring Jharkhand. Forest department officials reached the spot after receiving information and are trying to ward off the pachyderms.
