Keonjhar: A herd of wild elephants from Jharkhand today sneaked into villages of Keonjhar district triggering panic among locals in the area. No casualty or damage has been reported yet.
The jumbos later entered the adjoining Rajia forest after some villagers chased them away fearing damage to their crops.
According to reports, the herd of 22 elephants, comprising seven calves and nine female elephants entered Sorei village and then moved on to Tuntuna and Sashang villages in the district.
They were also spotted crossing a road following which vehicular movement in the route was disrupted for few hours.
On getting information, forests officials rushed to the spot and tried to drive away the animals to a nearby forest.The herd is from neighboring Jharkhand, informed forest officials.
