Bolangir: Carcasses of a female elephant and its calf found in apaddy field at Bakati village in the district today.
The jumbos are suspected to have come in search of foods as the paddy harvesting season is on.

The reason of the death has not yet been ascertained, said forest officials who rushed to the spot soon after being informed. They have seized the bodies for post mortem.

The reason of the death can only be known after the investigation, an official said.

Notably, report issued by the forest department recently had revealed a terrible human-animal conflict in Odisha for last six years, resulting in the deaths of 454 people and 2,261 animals, including 388 elephants.

The report said further that poaching, poisoning, accidents and deliberate electrocution are the major reasons for the alarmingly high elephant deaths.
