Dhenkanal: An elephant calf was found dead in a pond near Bampa village under Hindol forest range in the district on Thursday morning.

According to reports, a herd of elephant strayed into the village last night to drink water from the nearby pond. However, the baby elephant could not move out of the pond as it got trapped in the mud.

On being informed about the incident, forest officials rushed to the spot and seized the carcass of the pachyderm, sources said.
