Electrical worker injured during repairs; locals block road

Kalahandi: Irate locals staged a road blockade in Narla town in the district on Friday morning after an electrical worker was injured critically while repairing a damaged power line.

The injured identified as Turit Majhi was rushed to Narla hospital where doctors referred him to district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Bhawanipatna. Condition of Majhi is stated to be critical.

According to sources, the incident occurred when Majhi, reportedly a contractual worker with the electricity department was injured by electrical shock while repairing an utility pole.  Majhi who received injuries in both hands and leg, suddenly fell down from the pole and was rushed to Narla hospital, sources added.

Irate over the incident locals squatted on the road demanding adequate compensation and free treatment for Majhi.
