Dhenkanal: Dhenkanal district witnessed the fifth elephant attack this week after an elderly man was trampled to death by a jumbo this morning at Bangrusingh village under Sadar police station.

Following the incident, the forest officials issued an alert asking locals in the area to remain indoors during evenings.

According to reports, the deceased identified as Barju Sahoo had gone out to collect vegetables from his farmland when the wild animal attacked him. He died on the spot.

Irate over the incident, locals blocked Cuttack-Angul road demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased. They also demanded action by authorities to resolve elephant menace in the area.

Earlier on April 14, a labourer was trampled to death by a wild elephant near the Goudakateni canal.

Similarly, two persons were killed in two separate incidents of jumbo attack on April 12.

Forest officials have admitted to rise in elephant movement in the region since last week.
