Balasore: A local court in Jaleswar here Saturday sent the woman accused of hurling eggs at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during the inauguration of Talasari Beach festival in Balasore to judicial custody till February 8.

The woman, Rajeswari Kamila, was produced in the JMFC court in Jaleswar in connection with the case registered under relevant IPC and CrPC sections at Marine Police Station in Talasari. Later, the Judicial Magistrate passed an order and remanded her to judicial custody till February 8, a public prosecutor said.

Rajeswari had hurled eggs at the dias of the Chief Minister on January 31 when he was addressing a public meeting at Talasari on January 31.

Earlier, the woman was allegedly manhandled by police and ruling BJD supporters after she was caught, and later admitted to Balasore Headquarters Hospital from where she was discharged yesterday and produced before the court.

Meanwhile, the BJP has alleged that even though she was undergoing treatment at the hospital and had not recovered completely, police took her into judicial custody.

The woman’s father-in-law Amulya Kamila had also filed a counter case two days back. In his complaint, he had alleged that his daughter-in-law has been subjected to mental and physical torture inside the police station. This apart, he had also accused BJD MP Anant Das, some of his fellow supporters and Huguli sarpanch’s son Abhijit Panda of misbehaving with his daughter-in-law.

The Talasari Marine police had earlier registered a case suo motu against the woman, under section 307 (attempt to murder) read with Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC based on the complaint of police ASI Madhusudan Dutt.
