Bhubaneswar: One and a half month after the death of Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra (Lulu), efforts are on to take the firebrand leader’s legacy forward.

Led by Lulu’s daughter Upasana and brother Lalitendu, the supporters along with district level workers and senior leaders of the party congregated at the leaders house today. Speaking to the media for the first time since his father’s death, Upasana said that she will realise her father’s dream not with words but with action. She is also joined by Lulu’s brother Lalitendu Mohapatra, both of whom have pledged to follow the leader footsteps and ideology. “My father’s void will be filled by me and my uncle”, said Upasana, while Lalitendu indicated his entry into politics by citing that Lulu was his ideal.

“There are a lot of unfulfilled dreams of my father. When time comes, we will fulfil them with our actions not words. Right now me and my uncle’s aim is to fill in my father’s place. My father had a very close attachment with the party. People call it party or organisation, but my father used to call it his family. My father has created a family which we will protect it and grow it,” said Upasana.

“The kind of politics that my brother did, I support that and in case I get into politics, I will follow his footsteps,” said Lalitendu.

However, one of the important persons of the party, PCC chief Prasad Harichandan was visibly missing from the gathering. Similarly, few supporters of Prasad were also not present during the get together.

“Someone could be busy with something for which they could not attend the meeting,” said senior leader, Niranjan Patnaik.

“Lulu had a wish to arrange a huge rally of youths. I am always with him and will completely support such an initiative in future,” said Opposition chief whip, Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
