Malkangiri: At a time when expectant mothers in several parts of Odisha continue to struggle to reach hospitals due to poor road connectivity, a doctor has set an example by reaching out to the patient himself to conduct the delivery in remote Malkangiri district.

Not just that, the doctor then carried the woman and the newborn on a cot after her condition deteriorated after the delivery.

According to reports, Dr Omkar Hota took the pain of reaching to the expectant mother Subama Sundaray after getting an SOS call from her family members on Wednesday as no ambulance could reach their village.

Hota, who works in Paplur health centre, immediately responded to the emergency call and rushed to Sarigeta village to conduct the delivery on his own.

However, the condition of the woman deteriorated due to excess bleeding soon after the delivery.

With no option to rush the woman to the hospital by motorized transport, Hota then took up the task along with few villagers in making alternative arrangements.

Later, Hota and the villagers carried the woman and her newborn on a cot and walked nearly 8 kms to reach the nearest hospital.
