Duty Beyond Borders: BSF men turn messiahs, ferry pregnant woman to hospital

Malkangiri: The family members of 21-year-old Pramila Khara had left hope after she could not be rushed to the hospital in cut-off Malkangiri district despite complaining of labour pain due to non-availability of ambulance or any other vehicle.

Writhing in pain, Pramila had to remain stranded at inaccessible Badapada village till a team of BSF jawans, who had gone for a routine patrolling in the area, came to her rescue on Thursday.

The jawans turned 'messengers of God' for the poor family and made all efforts to shift her to hospital. By then the condition of Pramila had deteriorated and shifting her to the hospital carried risk.

However, without wasting time, the BSF team led by Assistant Commandant of Janbai Sushil Singh and Sandip Gupta of Badapada and their team ferried Pramila in their boat and took her to the hospital. Though the condition of Pramila is not known at present, the efforts of the BSF was lauded by all.

Earlier, CRPF jawans had set an example by carrying two tribal women on sling for over 7 km after they were severely injured in explosions of pressure bombs planted by Maoists in Chitrakonda in January this year.
