Kandhamal: Though doctors are considered saviours, only a few go the distance beyond their call of duty in helping patients to earn that tag. Meet Yajnadutta Rath, who responded to an emergency call and assisted a pregnant woman in delivery inside a forest in Kandhamal district.

According to reports, Rath had received information about the woman writhing in labour pain at Palam forest under Tumudibandha block of the district.

Without wasting time, Rath rushed to the spot after trekking the mountain on his feet, sources said.

Earlier, the family of the woman had decided to admit her at the community health centre after she went into labour pain. As ambulance did not arrive, the family members decided to rush her to the hospital via the forest route.

“Local BDO helped me to reach the spot. When I reached the spot, the woman had already delivered the child. It is the duty of every doctor to save a patient’s life,” said Rath.

Rath further said doctors should discharge their duties with utmost care and take such initiatives to help the patients during their time of need.

Later, both the mother and child were shifted to the community health center and their condition is said to be stable.

In a similar case of exemplerary service by an Odisha doctor earlier, Omkar Hota took the pain of reaching to an expectant mother and carrying her to the hospital in a cot in remote Malkangiri district in November last year.

Hota of Paplur health centre had immediately responded to the emergency call and rushed to Sarigeta village to conduct the delivery.
