Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: Durga Puja (Dussehra) began in all earnest across Odisha today marked by religious fervor. While the Goddess Durga shrines observed Saptami (7th Day of the 10-day festival), the Sasthi Puja (6th day) ritual was carried out across puja pandals today.

Mega tableaus, ostentatious pandals and gold and silver-adorned idols of the Goddess marked the beginning of the festival in millennium city Cuttack. The Durga Puja is being celebrated across as many as 156 puja pandals.

“Today the rituals began today with offering of Bel leafs. On the occasion of Saptami tomorrow, the eyes of Goddes durga will be drawn,” said President of the Dolamundai Puja Committee Pradeep Mulia.

Similarly, in capital city Bhubaneswar, grand pandals have sprung into life on the occasion of Sasthi rituals. Rasulgarhs Glass Palace built with pieces of glass and the Bahubali Palace of Station Bazaar are the main attractions in the City.

“We have built the Pandal using bangles and coloured glass pieces which is a first of its kind,” said secretary of Rasulgarh Puja Management Committee Japan Routray.
