Drunk father held for killing daughter in Phulbani

Phulbani: A man was arrested for killing his two-year-old daughter allegedly in an inebriated condition at Mundalabali Sahi in Phulbani of Kandhamal district today.

According to reports, the accused, identified as Arabinda Pradhan also attacked his wife, who in a bid to save herself ran out the house, sources said.

However, an agitated Pradhan then caught hold of his daughter, who was playing outside the house and slammed her on the ground.

The injured minor girl was initially rushed to Daringibadi Community Health Centre (CHC) and later shifted to Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where she succumbed.

"I asked him to leave our daughter. But, my husband was in an inebriated condition and attacked my daughter," the accused's wife alleged.

"The girl was brought to the hospital in a critical condition. Unfortunately, she developed breathing problems today morning and died," informed Sasmita Dalabehera, a nurse at Phulbani Hospital.

"She had sustained critical injuries to her brain which partially paralyzed her. She was not responding to treatment. Stringent action should be taken against the accused," said Sibashankar Behera, Childline member.
