Dreaded criminal Shaikh Babu injured in police encounter

Cuttack: A notorious criminal was injured in an exchange of fire between him and police here at Hadipatha area in the city late last night.

Critically injured Shaikh Babu was admitted to hospital, said Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora.

"We were tipped-off about the hideout of Sheikh at Hadiapatha in the city and accordingly we carried out a raid to nab him. He opened fire first at police and the security forces too retaliated in which Sheikh sustained a bullet injury in his leg. He has been admitted to the SCB medical college and hospital," Arora added.

Babu, an associate of Mohammad Sakil, was wanted by Cuttack Commissionerate Police. Eight cases are pending against him at various police stations, the DCP said.
