Dreaded criminal nabbed after police encounter in Cuttack

Cuttack: A dreaded criminal was nabbed following a police encounter in Cuttack Sadar area this evening.

The criminal, identified as Sada Nayak has sustained injuries in left leg during the exchange of fire with police and has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Police also seized a gun and live bullets from the possession of Nayak, who is one of the co-accused of firing on house of Bijay Kumar Pal on February 23.

Earlier in the day, the prime accused in the firing case Mrutyunjay Nayak alias Miku was arrested. Two firearms and 29 live bullets were recovered from his posession.

Police said the accused Miku had fired at Bijay Pal with an intention of killing him on the direction of Sushant Dhal Samanta, who is currently lodged in Jharpara jail.

On February 23, Miku had called Pal outside his house at Subhadrapur for some discussion and later fired at him.

However, Pal had a close shave as he ran towards the corner after Miku took out a pistol from his waist and opened fire.
