Bhanjanagar: Dreaded criminal Sana Jaga was injured in a police encounter on the Mahaguda-Mujaguda road under Bhanjanagar police limits in Ganjam district today.

While Sana Jaga was on his way on the Mahaguda-Mujaguda road along with three aides in two bikes, the police intercepted them. But Jaga and his aides tried to escape from the spot after hurling bombs at police as well as firing up on the personnel.

In retaliation the cops fired at Jaga and his aides injuring the dreaded criminal in his leg.

Talking to media persons Ganjam SP Asish Singh said, "The three aides of Jaga have been detained."

Ashwini Kumar Sahu, IIC of Bhanjanagar police station said acting on a tip-off on the movement of Sana Jaga and his three associates in Mujaguda area at about 7.30 PM, a team of Bhanjanagar police, led by him, rushed to the area and spotted them inside Kutunikumpa forest on Mahaguda-Mujaguda road.

“Seeing the police, Jaga opened fire from his pistol and hurled a country bomb at the police. In reply, police opened fire at the anti-social who fell down from his bike after a bullet hit his left leg. The three associates were also caught. Police rushed Jaga to Bhanjanagar sub-divisional hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The three associates, identified as Bijay Kumar Bhuyan and Rajendra Mohanty of Puri and Biranchi Sahu of Sarapada village under Bhanjanagar police limits and, are being interrogated by police”, the IIC informed.

He further said police seized more than 15 country-made bombs, one country-made pistol and two bikes from their possession.

He said police was on the lookout of Jaga since long for his involvement in around 13 cases of loot and attempt to murder under several police station areas mostly in Bhanjanagar and Kandhamal areas.
