Dreaded criminal injured in police encounter; 2 others abscond

Paradip: A dreaded criminal was injured while two others managed to escape during a police encounter near Plastic Park here today.

The injured identified as Suryakant Swain of Alipingal village was later admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.

Acting on a tip-off, Paradip Additional SP and Lock Police Station IIC chased the three accused, who had planned a dacoity. The bike-borne miscreants entered into Chuna village while trying to give a slip to the police. They also hurled bombs at the cops, who later retaliated and opened fire at the trio.

While Swain sustained injuries on his leg and was caught by the police, his two aides managed to flee. Police said various criminal cases have been lodged against Swain at several police stations and search is on to nab the other two.
